The new 240 litre beige bin is part of the Council’s response to feedback from people and will give even greater capacity for recycling paper and card. Bolton recycled 29.26 per cent of its household waste last year and is on target, with householders’ help, to beat that this year.

This elephant, weighing 1062kg and made out of cast iron, sits proudly on the canopy in Victoria Square, and is one of a pair here, that used to sit atop the gateposts of the Bolton Bleachworks until 1977.
