Today was a day of great sunshine and adventure. Carmen and I decided that the day would be spent on the coast without the grand kids, so we decided to look for the shanty town of Skipool Creek ( reminds me of an old game I use to play on my amiga many years ago called Monkey island ) and hopefully photograph some dead boats.
A lot of the people who own or rent these jetties don’t seem to want you to venture on to them but A couple of guy’s called Daniel and Michael where more than happy to let us take some shots and mention them here. The vessel they own and are in the process of restoring “Lydia Cardel” a catamaran which they infomed me should be ready for sail in around nine months time.
Skipool is a curious and interesting place. Once a port and thought to be the origin of the name of nearby “Pool town” (Poulton), it is now much smaller, and varies from the most depressing muddy creek you can imagine to an attractive countryside walking spot. It is definitely a boating enthusiasts spot, although more “Shanty town” than “Yacht Club” the Blackpool & Fleetwood Yacht Club is here. Just North of Blackpool on the river Wyre. There is a collection of ram shackled old jetties with a wide variety of boats moored at them.
