Gasometer

A gasometer, or gas-holder, is a large container where natural gas or town gas is stored near atmospheric pressure at ambient temperatures. The volume of the container follows the quantity of stored gas, with pressure coming from the weight of a movable cap. Typical volumes for large gasometers are about 50,000 m³, with 60 m diameter structures.

This was taken on my way into Bolton Town via spa road. I was inspired to take this shot after a forum member decided that he would upload an image of the Farnworth gasometer. I liked the structure and the cloud formation coupled with the lighting from the right side of the image. I have maybe overdone the processing with the HDR Illustrative effect but…….. hey well we live and learn.
